Gordon Out for 3-4 Weeks
Cal F/C Shahar Gordon, a 6'10" sophomore, underwent knee surgery last week and will be out 3-4 weeks.
Era Comes To an End
For the first time in decades, the NBA is without a Jewish player. Late last week, the Minnesota Timberwolves released C Danny Schayes, possibly putting an end to his 18 year career.
International Jewish Hall of Fame Inducts Eight
Among the honorees were golf great Amy Alcott, gymnast Kerry Strug and Lello Efrati, an Italian boxer killed at Auschwitz. Read all about it here.
Schlesinger an All-American in Triple Jump
Congratulations to Jodi Schlesinger of West Nyack, NY, who was recently named a 1999 High School All-American in the triple jump in the December 1999 issue of Track & Field News magazine. Her best jump last year was 41-10 3/4. Currently a freshman at Duke University, Schlesinger is not the only top rated Jewish athlete on the Blue Devil squad. Teammate Jillian Schwartz (Lake Forest, Illinois) made All-ACC last year in the pole vault as a sophomore.
Agoos Leads DC United
A belated Mazel Tov goes to Jeff Agoos, the starting defenseman for DC United, which won their 3rd Major League Soccer title last week with a 2-0 victory over the LA Galaxy. Agoos is a member of the US National Team and a former Maccabiah competitor.
New Mexico's Stein Stars
In a 33-28 upset of Air Force, New Mexico QB Sean Stein completed 21 of 29 passes for an even 300 yards.
Krayzelburg Does it Again
Lenny Krayzelburg set a short course world record of 1:52.47 in the 200m backstroke at a FINA World Cup meet in College Park, MD.

Phillies C Mike Lieberthal won his first career Gold Glove today, topping off a year where he established himself as a star in the NL.
Dodgers Open Bank for Shawn
Upon agreeing to a 6 year, $84 Million contract, OF Shawn Green was traded today along with 2B Jorge Nunez for OF Raul Mondesi and P Pedro Borbon. Green is a SoCal native. Green is now the 2nd highest paid player in baseball after LA's Kevin Brown. Wonder what Cito Gaston thinks of that.
Drossin Wins 10K
11.8.99--Deena Drossin ran a solid 32:56 to win the 12th annual Delchamps Senior Bowl Charity Run 10K Saturday morning in downtown Mobile, Alabama.
Middleman Runs Well in NYC Marathon
11.8.99--1996 Olympian Dan Middleman competed in his first marathon on Sunday. He finished 26th in 2:24:52.
Green Going to Tinseltown?
11.8.99--Reports out of LA yesterday pointed to a Dodgers-Blue Jays trade that would bring Shawn Green south of the border in exchange for Raul Mondesi. We'll keep you posted.
Rosenblatt Outboxes Pazienza, Wins Belt
11.7.99--On Friday night, Dana Rosenblatt won a majority decision over Vinny Pazienza, winning the IBO super middleweight title.
Kapler Dealt to Rangers
11.2.99--As part of the blockbuster Juan Gonzalez deal, up-and-coming OF Gabe Kapler was traded to the Texas Rangers.
Patkin Dead at 79
11.2.99--Max Patkin, the "Clown Prince of Baseball" died this past weekend. Our thoughts go out to his family and fans.
College Football Round-Up
10.31.99--Another banner day for the kickers as Hayden Epstein kicked the winning FG for Michigan with just 18 seconds left after nailing each of his PT and FG attempts earlier in the game. Plus, Penn K Jason Feinberg wa perfect on PTs and FGs in a heartbreaking loss to Yale, 23-19. Also, Vitaly Pisetsky conitnued his campaign for All-American status by making each PT attempt for Wisconsin, and Oregon K Josh Frankel made 2 key FGs and both his PTs in a thrilling victory over Arizona St....Wash. St. QB Steve Birnbaum went 18-34-0-194 in a tough loss to Oregon St....New Mexico QB Sean Stein led his team to a 27-6 victory over UNLV by going 24-40-0-217.
Goodman To Sign with Towson
10.22.99--Tamir Goodman, the Orthodox off-guard who caused a stir by orally committing to Maryland then rescinding, will sign with Towson during the early signing period in November.
T-Wolves Sign Shayes
10.22.99--The Minnesota Timberwolves yesterday announced they signed 18-year veteran center Danny Schayes.
Fiedler Stars, Gets 1st NFL TD
Replacing injured Mark Brunell, Jags QB Jay Fiedler completed 12-of-14 passes for 113 yards and directed three scoring drives.

10.17.99--Wisconsin K Vitaly Pisetsky was 8-8 on extra points and kicked a 27 yard FG for a total of 11 points in the Badgers 59-0 romp of Indiana...New Mexico QB Sean Stein was 13-35-1-134 in a loss to BYU...UPenn K Steinberg was 5-5 on PTs and made FGs of 28 and 23 yeards in a win over Columbia.
Maccabi Tel Aviv Trounced by Miami Heat
10.12.99--In a game full of emotion with a tribute to the late Ted Arison, the NBA's Miami Heat beat Maccabi tel Aviv last night 126-91.
Heat name Rothstein Head of WNBA Team
10.12.99--Last week, Miami Heat officials named former Heat coach Ron Rothstein as the GM and Coach of Miami's upcoming WNBA team.
Ted Arison, 75, Dies of Heart Attack
10.03.99--Israeli Businessman Ted Arison passed away this past weekend. It is a huge loss for the Jewish and the sports worlds. Arison was the founding owner of the NBA's Miami Heat. JewishSports.com sends its best wishes to the Arison family.
