December 17, 2000--In what may be a breakout game for him, Tamir Goodman scored 16 points and dished out 6 assists while going 12-14 from the charity stripe as the Tigers beat Liberty.
Bluthenthal Wins Honor
December 14, 2000--USC junior forward David Bluthenthal has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 4-10. Bluthenthal averaged 27.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists last week as the Trojans defeated Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara. Bluthenthal scored 29 points on 11-of-18 (.611) shooting with 11 rebounds and four assists in the victory over Northridge.
Fiedler Doubtful for Battle with Indy
December 14, 2000--Dolphins' QB Jay Fiedler, coming off his worst performance as a pro versus Tampa Bay, is still suffering the effects of a torn rotator cuff in his non-throwing shoulder. Today's practice should determine his availability for this Sunday's key AFC East battle with the Colts
Sheinfeld Earns MCC Player of the Week
December 8, 2000--Wright St. C Israel Sheinfeld (Jr.) averaged 22.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in a pair of Raider wins last week. Sheinfeld tied his career-high with 29 points, while adding 13 boards, against Alabama A&M. He scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds versus Tennessee State. For the week, Sheinfeld hit 12-of-19 (.632) shots from the floor and 20-of-23 (.870) from the free throw line. The Raiders, at 4-0, are off to their best start ever since joining the Division I ranks.
Fiedler Doubtful for Colts' Game
November 23, 2000--Still nursing a pinched nerve in his neck, QB Jay Fiedler again missed practiced yesterday and is highly doubtful for the Dolphins' big intra-division matchup Sunday with Indianapolis.
Israeli Duo Wins Bronze
November 20, 2000--Israel's ice dance couple Galit Chait and Sergei Sakhanovsky took the bronze medal at the prestigious Cup of Russia International Skating Union competition yesterday. This is one of the best-ever results for the Israeli pair; they received only six negative points.

Feinberg Leads Penn to 45-13 Win
November 19, 2000--In yesterday's college gridiron action, Jason Feinberg became the Ivy League's highest scoring kicker as he booted in 6 PATs and a 33 yard FG. In other games, Michigan's Hayden Esptein adeptly handled the kicking and punting duties in a 38-26 win over rival Ohio St., scoring 8 points and keeping OSU punt returners at bay.

November 19, 2000--Freshman G Tamir Goodman had justTamir Goodman 2 points and 4 assists in 29 minutes of action as the Towson Tigers lost their season opener to UMBC last night, 87-76. Elsewhere on the college hardwood: USC's F David Bluthenthal began his march towards an All-American season in a 107-92 victory ofver Bradley with 23 points and 13 boards; Penn PG David Klatsky had 15 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds in an 81-78 loss to Fordham; G David Abramowitz of SDSU had 5 points and 5 assists in his team's 80-48 win.
Pole-Vaulter Named All-American
Molly Lederman, a junior pole-vaulter at New Jewish High School in Waltham, MA was named a 2000 All-American by Track & Field News in its latest issue. Lederman briefly held the indoor national record with a leap of 12-91/2 last winter.
Brown, 76ers Still Undefeated
November 16, 2000--Philadelphia Coach Larry Brown has so far done a fabulous job with the 76ers, leading the team to an 8-0 record after a 107-98 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers last night. Check out our interview with Brown.
Goodman Shines Off Bench
November 15, 2000--In an exhibition loss to Israeli team Givat Shmuel, Tamir Goodman came off the bench to record 6 points and 9 assists. "I thought on the offensive end he was outstanding," coach Mike Jaskulski said. "I thought that was as good a performance for a freshman as I've seen in a long time. I thought he was poised, he ran the team, he distributed the basketball and did all the things we know he can do." Added Goodman, "I think Coach Jaz [Jaskulski] wants me to make everyone around me better. Feinberg Sets Another Record
November 12, 2000--Penn K Jason Feinberg went 3-4 on FGs and 3-3 on PATs for 11 total points to become the highest scoring kicker in Ivy League history, while leading the Quakers to a thrilling 36-35 victory over Harvard yesterday.

November 12, 2000--Tamir Goodman will soon get the first chance to answer his critics. Goodman's Towson Tigers open their exhibition season on Tuesday, Nov 14th at 7:30pm versus Israeli team Givat Shmuel.
Penn's Feinberg Sets Record
November 8, 2000--With his performance this past Saturday, Quakers K Jason Feinberg became the school's all-time leader in total points by a kicker, field goals, and extra points. He needs just 8 points to become the all-time leader in kicker scoring for the Ivy League and 13 points to become Penn's all position leader.

Taves Plays Key Role
November 6, 2000--With Lance Johnstone injured, Raiders' DE Josh Taves stepped up big yesterday in his team's 49-31 victory over KC. He returned his first career interception 24 yards, stopping a Chiefs' drive that was all the way to Oakland's 15 yard line. Also, yesterday, Jay Fiedler had his most accurate performance of the season, going 13-18 for 112 yds and no INTs while rushing 8 times for 42 yards, leading the Dolphins back to 1st place with a 23-8 win over the Lions.
Frankel a Hero in Ducks' OT Win

October 30, 2000--Down 1-0 to the Flyers, the Capitals' Jeff Halpern scored a power-play goal two minutes into the 3rd period last night to tie the game. It is the 2nd goal on the season for the suburban DC native.

HoF Honor For Times' Newhan
October 26, 2000--LA Times baseball writer Ross Newhan was named the 2000 winner of the Hall of Fame's J.G. Taylor Spink Award, honoring his 40 year career. Newhan will receive the award at a HoF ceremony in Cooperstown on August 5th, 2001. Newhan is the father of Phillies' 2B David Newhan.
Paralympic SIlver For Israel
October 24,2000--Doron Shaziri won a silver medal for Israel earlier today in shooting at the Paralympics in Sydney. Shaziri scored 691.1 points, just behind the winner from Sweden, Jonas Jacobbson, who ended up with 691.6.
USC's Bluthenthal Out 2-4 Weeks
October 23, 2000--David Bluthenthal, Southern California's leading rebounder last season at 8.3 per game and was expected to be the Trojans' top scorer, will be out for 2-4 weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

October 8, 2000--In another workmanlike performance that included 143 yds, 1 TD and only one INT, Jay Fiedler helped to bring the Dolphins' record to 5-1, which, coupled with the NY Jets' loss to the Steelers, puts Miami atop the AFC East standings. Elsewhere in the NFL, Raiders' DE Josh Taves recorded 2 solo tackles in their win over the SF 49ers.
Mixed Bag At IAAF Grand Prix
October 6, 2000--There were some good performances by Jewish athletes in the IAAF Grand Prix yesterday in Doha, Qatar. Shot putter Andy Bloom had a throw of 71-7 1/4 ft, the longest ever by a Jew, to place 1st. Also, Zhanna Pintusevich-Block placed 4th in a time of 11.16 in the women's 100m. However, they were somewhat overshadowed by the fact Israelis did not compete in the meet because the Qatar government denied their visas.
Kalganov Wins 1st Israeli Medal
October 2, 2000--Michael Kalganov claimed Israel's only medal, a bronze in the 1500m Kayak, over the weekend with a time of 1:59.563. His performance salvaged a poor outing by Israeli olympians.
Whalen Wins Silver
September 29, 2000--Sara Whalen won a silver medal yesterday as a member of the US women's soccer team, which suffered a tough 3-2 loss to Norway. Elsewhere in Sydney, Margie Goldstein-Engle qualified for the individual equestrian event final, to be held on Sunday.
Pintusevich-Block Finishes 8th, Israeli Wrestler Just Misses Bronze
September 28, 2000--Zhanna Pintusevich-Block, who had appeared to be the best chance for a medal in track among the Jewish Olympians, finished 8th in the 200m dash yesterday in 22.66 seconds. In the women's 10000m, Deena Drossin failed to qualify with a time of 34:40.86. On the mat, Israel's Juri Yevseychyk lost a tight OT match in the bronze medal round by the score of 1-0.
Poor Weather Hampers Goldstein-Engle
September 26, 2000--Equestrienne Margie Goldstein-Engle was tied for 49th place after 16 faults on the first day of qualifying yesterday. The competition was marred by inclement weather, which made an already tough course even tougher.
Another Big Day for Kickers
September 24, 2000--Ks Pisetsky, Frankel, Kopka, and Feinberg all had big days yesterday. Pisetsky was particularly huge in Wisconsin's heartbreaking 2OT loss with 3FGs and 3 PATs. Kopka had 1 FG and was 6-6 on PATs.Frankel's 3 FGs and 2 PATs were key in Oregon's upset of UCLA, while Penn's Feinberg led a 45-28 victory over Lafayette.
3rd Gold, World Record for Lenny
September 24, 2000--In yesterday's 4x100m medley relay, Lenny Krayzelburg led off the US team's assault on the world record and closed out a phenomenal Olympics for Jewish swimmers, netting 7 overall medals, 4 golds.
Disappointing 5th for Zhanna
September 23,2000--In a tightly contested race, Zhanna Pintusevich-Block finished 5th at 11.20, just .02 behind bronze medal winner Tanya Lawrence of Jamaica. She looks to rebound in the 200m later in the competition.
Remarkable Finish Brings Gold to Ervin
September 23, 2000--In a scene worthy of a double take, Anthony Ervin, a JCC Maccabi alumnus, tied his training partner Gary Hall, Jr. to win the coveted 50m freestyle gold medal in a time of 21.98. Elsewhere in Sydney, Ukrainian sprinter Zhanna Pintusevich-Block cruised to an easy win in her 2nd round prelim of the 100m dash in 11.08 seconds. With US runner Inger Miller out with an injury, Pintusevich-Block stands as Marion Jones' chief rival.
Shotputter Bloom Barely Misses Medal
September 22, 2000--With a throw of 68'5.65" (20.87m), Andy Bloom finished 4th in the Shot Put finals today. He unfortunately fell short of his personal best of 70'10.5" (21.6m), a distance with which he would have won gold.
Another Gold, Another Olympic Record
September 21, 2000--Lenny Krayzelburg again broke his own Olympic Record in the 200m backstroke today in Sydney with a time of 1:56.76, .59 ahead of the 2nd place finisher. This is Krayzelburg's 2nd gold. He has a chance for a 3rd in the 4x100m medley relay this weekend.
