Duke's Schwartz Vaults to All American Honors
Jillian Schwartz improved upon her past personal best by 6 inches at the NCAA
Championships with a jump of 13 feet 5 1/4 inches, earning her All American
Honors. Her vault is the highest ever for a Jewish woman.
Kapler Back in the Majors
The Texas Rangers re-activated Gabe Kapler from the DL on May 23rd. He was injured
with a torn right quadriceps muscle.
Dartmouth Pitcher Named All-Ivy
Jonathan Miller, who along with catcher MIke Levy, is part of one of the only
all Jewish batteries in Div I baseball, was named All Ivy as a reliever following
a campaign where he finished 0-1 with a 1.93 ERA.
Freedman Qualifies for Olympic Team
On Saturday, May 20th,
Nicole Freedman
won the U.S. National Cycling Road Race championship and with it a spot on the

Third Win for Fleisher
Bruce Fleisher won his 3rd Senior PGA Tour event, making a birdie on the 3rd
playoff hole to retain his Home Depot Invitational title in Charlotte, NC.
Green Continues His Hot Hitting
Shawn Green went 3-3 with his 6th HR and led the Dodgers to a 6-4 win, snapping
the Braves' 15 game winning streak. He has raised his average to .330.
April MLB Wrapup
Scott Schoenweis is definitely the biggest story. He finished April 4-0 with
a 3.15 ERA for the Angels. Gabe Kapler cooled off after his hot opener and is
now hitting just .193-3-12. Shawn Green has turned it on as of late: .309-5-15.

Selwyn to Tour on Big East All Star team
University of Pittsburgh women's basketball standout Laine Selwyn, a 5'7" point
guard, has been selected to play on the 2000 Big East Women's Basketball All-Star
Team this summer.

Gottlieb Taken First in USBL Draft
The Oklahoma Storm went with a local legend in making the first pick of the
United States Basketball League draft Tuesday, taking Oklahoma State point guard
Doug Gottlieb.

The season-opening series versus Montreal left RF Shawn Green hitting only .235

New Rangers acquisition OF Gabe Kapler started the 2000 season with a bang,
going 3-4 with with 2 homers. He knocked in and scored 3 runs.
Gezachw Yossef Runs in Elite Company at Stanford Meet
Ethiopian Texas Tech track athlete Gezachw Yossef ran a time of 3:41.97 in the
1,500-meter run at the Stanford Cardinal Invite on Sunday afternoon, breaking
a 21-year old Texas Tech record and setting an NCAA provisional qualifying time
in the process.
American Record for Drossin!
Deena Drossin established a new American record for a 5K road race with a time
of 15:08. She far outdistanced the field in winning the Carlsbad 5000. "Coming
onto the final home stretch and into the finish line was one of the most inspirational
moments of my life," said Drossin.
Shahar Gordon To Return To Israel After Wake Forest Game
Sophomore center Shahar Gordon, who has to report for service with the Israeli
military April 2, will play his final game for Cal Friday against Wake Forest
before flying home to Tel Aviv.
Fogler Signs Contract Extension
South Carolina head basketball coach Eddie Fogler signed an extension that will
keep him there until 2004.
Greenberg an Academic AA
Binghamton University women's basketball player Bess Greenberg (Vestal/Vestal)
has been selected to the GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America first team - one of
just five players chosen across the country. Greenberg, who was a third team
selection a year ago, averaged 21.3 points per game on 53% shooting amd finished
with a 3.84 GPA.
Drossin Leads US to Bronze
Deena Drossin lead the US team at the World Cross Country Championships. Drossin,
Reebok,who won both the long and short course at the U.S. Trials, placed 12th
in 27:11 in the long course.

Title
Saturday in Atlanta, Shotputter Andy Block had a throw of 70--10 1/2, the second
best in the world this year, to win the USA Track and Field Championships Title.
Goldstein Loses in Semis
Paul Goldstein lost Saturday 0-6, 7-5, 6-7 to Alex Calatrava in the semifinals
of the Citrix Tennis Championships in Delray Beach, FL.
Colts Sign Ornstein
Former Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Rowan (NJ) QB Gus Ornstein signed a 2
year contract with the Indianapolis Colts. He is expected to battle for the
backup slot.
