September 12, 2003-- After returning to the quarterfinals of the European championships for the first time in 20 years with a dramatic 78-76 victory over Slovenia in Sweden, the Israeli national team lost 78-64 last night to Spain and failed to qualify for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
Israeli Sharon Wins World Blind Golf Championship
September 3, 2003--Zohar Sharon, who lost his sight during his army service, won the World Blind Golf Championship in Scotland on Wednesday.
UEFA to Continue Israel Host Ban
August 29, 2003--Despite some promising comments from UEFA administration members recently, the group announced that it will continue to force Israel to play its home matches in European competitions outside the Holy Land.
Herb Brown Named Assistant in Detroit
August 10, 2003--New Detroit Pistons Head Coach Larry Brown named his brother Herb to his staff this week, reuniting the brothers. In other NBA news, Ron Rothstein was named an assistant for the Pacers.
Mizrachi gets Phoenix Tryout
July 11, 2003--Late last month, Israeli hoopstress Limor Mizrachi had a private workout for the Phoenix Mercury. No word yet on whether she'll be the 1st native Israeli in the WNBA, but roster moves are expected after the All Star break.
Red Sox Sign Kapler
